0.03 -> Have you ever wanted to highlight the
top score (or value) in an Excel table?
5.15 -> In this tutorial, we'll show you how
8.96 -> Here we have a list of names
in column A in the range A2:A11
14.26 -> and their corresponding score
in column B
17.6 -> We want to automatically highlight
the top score in this Excel table
22.68 -> We can do this by using the built-in
conditional formatting options in Excel
28.04 -> First, highlight the cells that you wish
to apply the formatting to
32.02 -> In this example, we will select
cells B2:B11 in the spreadsheet
37.5 -> Make sure that the Home tab is the active tab
40.86 -> and then select Conditional Formatting
and then Manage Rules
47.44 -> This is where we can see all of
our conditional formatting rules
51.2 -> that have been applied to our
current selection of B2:B11
55.28 -> At the moment, we don't have
any conditional formatting
58.58 -> so let's click on the "New Rule" button
to enter our condition
62.28 -> Select "format only top or
bottom ranked values" as the rule type
67.05 -> Make sure that "Top" is selected
in the first drop-down
71.87 -> and then enter "1" in the text box
next to it
75.88 -> This will allow us to target
the highest score value
79.92 -> Next, we need to select the formatting
to apply when this condition is met
84.58 -> To do this, click on the Format button
87.72 -> Since you want to set a background color,
we'll click on the Fill tab
92.42 -> and then select the color that we'd like
to see for the highest score
96.34 -> In this example, we will select
a light green
100.08 -> When you are done selecting your formatting,
click on the OK button
105.16 -> Now we can see in the Preview window the formatting
that will be applied when this condition is met
110.76 -> In other words, the highest score should be
highlighted with a green background color
115.58 -> Now click the OK button again
to close our formatting rule
119.98 -> Now you can see our formatting rule that highlights
the top 1 score with a green background color
126.34 -> As a general rule, we like to uncheck
the "Stop If True" checkbox
130.86 -> in case you want to add any more
conditional formatting rules later
134.86 -> Now let's click on the OK button to apply our new rules
139.16 -> Now we can see in our spreadsheet
that Jody has the highest score of 10
143.42 -> which is highlighted in green
145.68 -> If we were to change another score higher
148.12 -> say, for example, we changed
Ben's score to 11
150.84 -> Excel will automatically change the highlighting
to reflect that Ben now has the highest score
156.38 -> It's that simple!
158.62 -> This covers our example of how
to use conditional formatting
162.24 -> to highlight the top score in an Excel table
