FIXED: Desktop Icons Not Showing Properly In Win 8,8.1,10 | How To Restore Missing Shortcut Icons

Are you frustrated that your desktop icons not showing properly? In this video, I will share how to fix the annoying problem wherein the shortcut icons get replaced by generic file icon by Windows. Once done implementing this easy fix, Windows rebuilds the icon cache and you would be able to see all the icons as they were previously. This fix would work in Windows 8 and 8.1. This solution apparently also works for Windows 10 as well.

TROUBLESHOOTING \u0026 ALTERNATE SOLUTION

If the solution shown in the video does not work, then you may try the following troubleshooters:
1. Make sure you are deleting the icon cache file from the correct profile/folder.
2. Restart your device.

DISCLAIMER: Another fix involves changing registry values. So make sure to take backup of your REGISTRY before you try this. If you do anything incorrectly, you will risk ruining your device. So be VERY CAREFUL \u0026 DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. If you are ok with this, try the steps below:

1. Press Windows+R (to launch Run.exe)
2. In the Run program, type there regedit and hit enter
3. Then in the Registry Editor program. follow this folder path route:
HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / WINDOWS NT / CurrenVersion / Winlogon
4. Now click on Winlogon and after clicking then look right side pane.
5. Here you have to find the Item called “shell” and click on twice (Double click)
6. In the Value Data Edit box, Type Explorer.exe (The value of this key Explorer.exe) then click on OK
7. Now restart your computer, and after restart problem should be fixed.
