Windows 7 will display this error.

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the
cause. To fix the problem:

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer

Recovery

Your PC/Device needs to be repaired

The Boot Configuration Data file doesn’t contain valid information for an operating system.

File: \Boot\BCD
Error code: 0xc0000098

You’ll need to use recovery tools. If you don’t have any installation media(like a disc or USB device), contact your PC administrator or PC/Device manufacturer.

This repair I show you should fix this BCD error on all the above operating systems. We will be using Startup Repair when we boot to our Windows Disk or Recovery Disk to solve our issue. Make sure you Click Repair your computer and NOT Install Windows. Windows will automatically do a bootrec /rebuildbcd and fix MBR (Master Boot Record) for you and repair the system.
