145.7 -> You boot up your computer and you've got a login,

227.113 -> Chrome OS will connect to your printer.

231.173 -> You can insert a USB memory stick

233.15 -> and you can access your files

235.72 -> and you can work even with Microsoft documents as well,

238.83 -> using the Android versions of Word and Excel.

242.21 -> And so you've got lots of ways of working inside Chrome OS.

245.69 -> Let me show you what some of those look like.

247.66 -> So here we have the File Browser inside of Google Chrome,

251.4 -> and you can see here that I've got my downloads,

253.96 -> which is kind of like my local files.

255.72 -> There is local storage included in Chromo OS,

258.48 -> so that means that internally in your Chromebook

262.37 -> which is the desktop version,

263.78 -> will have some storage for you

265.21 -> to download files from the internet and save them locally.

268.24 -> And they could be any kind of files,

269.67 -> it could be a Microsoft file,

272.71 -> could be an image, could be a movie file,

274.65 -> they'll all work fine on your Chromebook.

276.59 -> Next up you can see if I open up,

278.87 -> I've got a link to my Google Drive,

281.36 -> and this works in the same way as Google File Stream does

284.4 -> on a Windows or a Mac machine.

287.55 -> I can see my Shared Drives and access everything there,

290.09 -> and Google also lets me see,

291.96 -> like I can on my Google Drive online computers.

295.6 -> And so I can actually go and look at documents

297.6 -> that I've backed up using Google Backup and Sync

301.73 -> But apart from that,

302.57 -> the file browsing is pretty straightforward.

304.58 -> If I was to insert a USB stick and I had files on that,

307.5 -> I could read and write from that USB stick.

309.89 -> If I was to insert the set of headphones into the computer,

315.41 -> anything that I was playing on the computer

317.07 -> from those headphones as well.

318.9 -> Now, Google also lets you connect to

322.83 -> And so obviously we've got internet connectivity,

325.95 -> I can use ethernet or I can use WiFi.

328.3 -> So if I've got WiFi built into a particular device,

330.99 -> I can connect to any WiFi network there.

333.15 -> I can use Bluetooth for a Bluetooth headset,

335.72 -> or I might want to connect to other devices

337.87 -> like a handsfree, I can do that,

339.56 -> and it's got some other cool little features

342.68 -> take it a bit easier on your eyes late at night

344.81 -> if you're working on a laptop.

346.15 -> I can cast my screen,

347.82 -> which actually shares my computer screen right up to my TV

350.86 -> if I'm using a Google Chrome Cast,

352.84 -> and you can see there's even things like

354.45 -> Do Not Disturb for notification management.

357.24 -> Pretty much anything you expect to get

359.41 -> from a normal computer,

360.7 -> you can do on Chrome OS.

362.63 -> The major drawbacks or the differences are

364.96 -> that you can't install a Mac application

367.49 -> or a windows application.

369.08 -> So you can't download Final Cut Pro or Adobe Photoshop

373.33 -> and install it locally on this machine.

375.48 -> The only apps that will run are Chrome ad-ons,

378.34 -> Chrome plugins or Android apps.

381.28 -> Now, that's not actually that limiting

383.34 -> because right now

384.39 -> there's a lot of apps in the Android play store,

386.71 -> and that gives you a lot of options

388.4 -> for getting work done on this local machine.

390.78 -> But you're not able to install a CD and

393.56 -> install MYOB on the desktop version or

396.21 -> install the desktop version of Microsoft office.

398.8 -> You would have to use

399.75 -> the Android version of Microsoft Office

401.9 -> to access each one of those tools.

403.87 -> Now, what are some of the upside advantages

406.01 -> of using Chrome OS over other

408.73 -> operating systems like windows or Mac?

410.74 -> One of the best things is that Chrome OS

412.75 -> automatically updates.

414.2 -> Google provides free updates

415.54 -> which happen automatically in the background.

417.91 -> Google actually has

418.93 -> two copies of the operating system on every computer,

421.78 -> and while one is updating,

423.8 -> you can continue using the operating system.

426.25 -> So you can say goodbye to having to wait

428.47 -> 10 or 15 minutes or even an hour

430.32 -> for your computer to update when you've shut down

432.47 -> or when you've done a restart.

434.86 -> the backup operating system in the background,

507.74 -> Google hasn't had that many options available for Chromes

512.7 -> Now, Google have launched their Stadia product,

514.92 -> which is a game streaming service

516.45 -> and that does work on Chrome OS.

520.12 -> beefier Chromebooks and Chrome devices to

522.76 -> actually potentially run steam gaming console in the future,

526.59 -> which will mean that you'll be able

527.67 -> to download and run games on the Chrome devices.

530.98 -> I'm curious to see where that goes,

532.47 -> it hasn't fully yet been released,

534.29 -> but I'm interested to what happens in the future.

536.67 -> For business users, the biggest criticisms are

538.92 -> that one app that they just can't access,

540.92 -> whether it normally runs on a Mac or on a Windows machine,

543.95 -> for whatever reason,

545.09 -> it's not going to install on the Chrome OS,

547.9 -> and that's a little bit of a dilemma.

549.45 -> If you've got a particular user

551.03 -> or a particular profile of user within your business

553.58 -> who needs access to a certain app

555.39 -> and it just doesn't run on the Chromebook,

557.14 -> you're gonna need to find another solution.

559.983 -> reviewing the application that you're using and

561.97 -> trying to find online alternatives.

563.61 -> Like, if right now you're using Photoshop,

565.43 -> perhaps you could switch to Canvas,

566.84 -> which runs great in the browser,

569.88 -> hosting that application in a cloud service of some sort

573.09 -> and sharing it down to the Chromebook

575.05 -> via remote desktop or Citrix app development.

578.2 -> Both of those work great on Chrome,

580 -> and they're a viable option for a legacy application,

605.98 -> So you can manage the fleet of your Chrome devices

610.24 -> If you wanna set a common desktop wallpaper for everyone,

615.15 -> or maybe you want to set when and where the computer

619.59 -> you can do all of that via the G Suite admin panel

625.16 -> or change settings manually and locally on the device.

627.97 -> The great thing about Google's setup where there's

630.26 -> two distinct operating systems

631.89 -> and it keeps it backup copy there,

633.44 -> is if anything ever goes wrong with a Chromebook,

635.63 -> you can do a remote wipe,

637.2 -> it's called a power wash,

638.42 -> and that will automatically reset the Chromebook

642.15 -> Your staff member that you're supporting

643.65 -> can sign back in with their business email address,

646.09 -> all of their information will be downloaded from the cloud

648.55 -> and automatically there'll be back to work.

650.69 -> This process can be done in under five minutes.

653.61 -> Where typically, if you have a windows or a Mac machine

655.83 -> that's having some software issues and you have to

657.9 -> reinstall the operating system,

659.58 -> it would require an it professional to spend

661.96 -> half a day or a day reinstalling

664.37 -> and then re-getting that operating system back up to speed

670.63 -> This is a fundamentally different way of working.

672.99 -> And while it's a simple way of working,

675.06 -> like using an iPad Pro is your primary device,
